"We are really disappointed" - Inter match reaction

The post-match reactions after the narrow 3-2 defeat at home to Inter Milan.

Florian Neuhaus: We fought back well after Inter went 1-0 up. They took a step back and we controlled the game and deservedly equalised before the break. We made changes for the second half and wanted to find a second goal. Inter then took the lead in a period in which we were on top. They then got a third goal, but we fought back again to make it 3-2 and then equalised before it was chalked off. Alassane played a good ball, got it back and then put it in the far corner. I can’t say if Embolo was offside. It was tough to keep having to come from behind against Inter. They were very compact and didn’t give us much space. Nevertheless, we still managed to find some gaps. Ultimately, it’s disappointing that our two goals weren’t enough in the end.

Christoph Kramer: We did well after a difficult opening 15 minutes. We had long periods of possession, broke Inter down and deservedly made it 1-1. Tikus lost the ball during a period in which we were in control and they punished it clinically. They sat very deep during the final quarter of an hour, but we still fought hard and made it 3-3. I don’t think Embolo was in the goalkeeper’s eye line. With my Gladbach bias, it wasn’t offside, but it’s a tough situation. The goal didn’t count in the end and that happens and it ultimately meant that we lost out.

Marco Rose: We are really disappointed because we were close again to getting a good result, which we would have deserved. I think we played better than we did in Milan, so we are taking steps forward. Inter defended well though, didn’t allow us many chances and showed their individual quality in the decisive moments going forward. Two 50-50 decisions went against us too. There was arguably a foul on Marcus Thuram before their second goal and I don’t think Breel Embolo was in an offside position for Alassane Plea’s equaliser as he wasn’t in the goalkeeper’s eye line. We can’t change that though. Now we just need to get the job done in Madrid.

Florian Neuhaus: "Ultimately, it’s disappointing that our two goals weren’t enough in the end."
